Sunshine Blogger Award

What better way to pick up my blog again after my somewhat uneven blogging schedule then with the Sunshine Blogger Award! Thank you to Why We Play Games for the nomination, its a sunny day in the UK right now so the perfect time to write and post my answers to their great questions.

First as always with these awards let’s cover the rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions they ask you
  • Nominate 11 blogs and write them 11 question
  • List the rules and display the logo in your post and/or on your blog

Now for Why We Play’s 11 questions:

1. What is your favorite video game series? My favourite series would have to be the Elder Scrolls. I love thee world of Tamriel, its deep lore and the freedom the game offers to explore and be the hero you want to be. Elder Scrolls is one of the earliest gaming series I’ve played and by far the one I’ve stuck with the longest. Despite the somewhat controversial release of Fallout 76 I am optimistic for the next Elder Scrolls whenever it finally gets announced.

2. What video game or video game series have you always wanted to try? Out of all the Video Games series out there I think that The Witcher is the series I’ve always wanted to try out. Considering my love of fantasy and RPG its surprising I’ve never picked it up but its on my list and I know I’ve got to give it a go at some point!

3. What was your favorite childhood video game? Starwars Battlefront on the Playstation 2 would have to be my favourite childhood game. I have fond memories of myself and my brother playing Starwars together when we were younger.

4. What is your favorite part about playing video games? For me my favourite part of playing video games is the stories you get to explore. I’ve always loved reading and for me video games allow me to explore stories more immersively getting to play a part in the world and narrative. There are some amazing worlds and events you get to explore.

5. What is your favorite video game console? This is a tough question, I’d say that I don’t have a favourite gaming console. I have a gaming PC I predominantly use and if I was going to chose a console I’d get a Playstation purely for the amazing exclusive line up. But I think all consoles really have their merit depending on your personal gaming style and preference.

6. Do you prefer single-player or multiplayer games? I prefer single player games. I like having the lone experience of games and being able to explore worlds without other gamers (perhaps sounds a bit anti-social but I love single player games). Whenever I play multiplayer games I always find I play them the same way I do single players and so dont have as enjoyable experience.

7. What is one of your favorite video game sidequests? There are sooo many side quests to choose from! If I had to pick a favourite it would have to be “An Unexpected Voyage” from Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Oblivion was the first open world RPG I played and after completing the tutorial and walking around a bit lost as to what to do I went to a tavern boat only to stumble onto a fun little side quest. It was totally unexpected and that’s what made it so fun!

8. What is your favorite video game boss? Thinking about this game I soon realized that I have never really played many games with bosses in them. My favourite would have to be Faith Seed from Farcry 4. She was an amazingly memorable character for me and the use of Bliss and music and the whole aesthetic around her in the game was amazing. The final fight as well revealed more of her backstory and complexities around her which I loved.

9. What was the hardest video game boss you have fought? The hardest Boss I have ever had to fight in a videogame would have to be “Defeat The Thief Taker General” from the video game Thief. Towards the end of the game you face the Thief Taker General who has been following you through the story. You’re trapped in a room with him and can either fight or through a complex method of distractions slowly open the door and exit by stealth. The fight is difficult on its own but only comes up because I entered the fight with no ammunition or any equipment to heal myself. I had nothing and so spent hours trying to kill him then googling and discovering the other way out and spent ages trying to get out! It took a long time and due to how the game saved I couldn’t reload to an earlier part and get supplies so I was stuck with what I had!

10. What is your favorite video game character? Hands down Clem is my favourite character in video gaming history. I love her for her character development, her relationship with Lee and he determination and personality. I’ve loved watching her grow up in the Walking Dead and can’t wait to see where her story ends…

11. What video game animal would you like to have as a pet? (Ex: moogle) If I could have any videogame animal as a pet I would have to go with Ushnar’s Skinned Hound from Oblivion. Now it doesn’t sound like the most attractive pet but the Hound is a loyal companion that follows you through the game and what he lacks in looks or skin he makes up for in loyalty and friendship.

With this amazing set of questions answered I guess its time to list my own. After jotting down some ideas I have instead decided to offer up the same questions Why We Play had given me. They are a great set of questions and I want to see  what other people’s answers to the questions would be.
